Last night, while checking the stats for the blog, I noticed that a gentleman named Gene had left a comment to yesterday’s post, The People’s Kitchen: Transitionally Homeless.

This is what he said:

I would not mind helping the homeless if they did something for their selfs. the ones I see all the time just keep begging money or being lazy. Maybe if they just got even part time jobs I might be willing to help. Even working Mcdonalds would be better then nothing for them.

I had originally intended to reply to his comment by adding a comment of my own. As I began to type my reply however, I realized that I probably wouldn’t be able to do so using "twenty-five words or less" because of his opening sentence. It brought to the forefront a sentiment that – I’m willing to bet – many others in the community also feel: the need for the homeless to do something for themselves.   (more…)
