Like many others who blog about homelessness, I use the Internet to monitor the news media for stories and articles about homelessness. I also read what other bloggers have to say about homelessness. One of those sites is the "End Homelessness" blog on the Change.org website.   (more…)

Already, some of the headlines I’ve been seeing regarding the numerous "Point In Time" counts taking place across the nation are not bearing good news. To be sure the preliminary data is sketchy, but thus far everything seems to point to an overall increase in homelessness. Although, due to the recession, it’s hard to expect that there would have been a decrease.

Change is inevitable.

Sometimes change comes about as a result of our actions. At other times, our actions are precipitated by change. Change can be good, or it can be not so good. Regardless of whether we want it to or not, it is going to occur.

Although I’m guessing, I would be willing to say that most folks seldom think about homelessness – at least, not on a conscious level.

If or when they do, it’s probably because they notice someone who is homeless. It may be that they’ve been approached by someone asking for spare change. Perhaps they happen to see someone standing on a corner holding a cardboard sign. Or possibly they might be faced with finding themselves without a place to live. Other than that, homelessness is something which happens to someone else – and therefore, not of any major importance to many folks.   (more…)

Every so often I end up writing a post which I know is going to ruffle someone’s feathers. While it’s not what I set out to do, it does happen nonetheless. It’s therefore no surprise to me when I get either comments or emails from folks who feel compelled to point out the error of my ways.   (more…)
