Over the last several months, as I’ve monitored the headlines from around the nation, I’ve noticed that more and more of them are mentioning an overall increase in the numbers of homeless in their areas. The increase itself isn’t a new trend. Homelessness has risen quite a bit over the last decade. Sadly, the numbers being reported lately are alarming.   (more…)


We’re midway through the Christmas season. Decorations have been put in place. Christmas trees have been trimmed. And despite the economic situation in the U.S., folks are feeling a bit more generous; expressing a bit more goodwill toward their fellow man. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, right?   (more…)

A number of days ago, someone posted a comment which was sent to the blog’s moderation queue because it contained a link to a remote site. As a rule, after I review those types of comments, I generally remove the link and leave the body of the comment intact. I do this because the majority of the time these links lead to a site where someone is trying to promote or sell something. While I have no problems with folks trying to make money, I will not allow this blog to become a portal for folks to do so. There are other avenues that are available to them and those are the ones they should use. This blog is not about making money – pure and simple.   (more…)

One of the questions which showed up in the blog’s list of search inquiries a couple of days ago was:

"why should the government provide food for the homeless"

When I read it, I must have paused for a good ten minutes wondering what might have been in the mind of the person making the inquiry.   (more…)

Dear President-Elect Obama,

To begin, let me congratulate you on having been elected as the next President of the United States. As President-elect, I’m sure the next two months will be busy ones as you begin preparations to take the oath of office.
