Sacramento Homeless Veteran Gets A Second Chance
A little over a week ago, I read an article in the Sacramento Bee that made me feel both sad and happy at the same time.
It was about a Veteran who had battled alcoholism. It was about a man who had been homeless up until just recently. It was about new friendships having been built. And, it was about a family reunion.
The article told of 68 year-old Richard Nary who – as the article worded it – had "… burned all his bridges." Read more…
Sub-Freezing Temperatures Put The Homeless At Greater Risk
Over the past week, the news has been covering the extreme cold temperatures that have gripped large parts of the nation.
Even in traditionally warmer climates like Florida, they have been experiencing sub-freezing temperatures. Some farmers in that state are concerned (and rightly so) that their crops may be adversely affected – or that they may lose them altogether.
The frigid temperatures, however, may take their biggest toll in human lives – especially among the homeless. Read more…

I don’t know who said it first – or when – but there is a phrase which states: "Never discuss religion or politics in polite company"
For the most part, I guess that’s pretty good advice because those are two topics which can create quite a ruckus even between the best of friends.
Yet, despite how good advice it may seem, I blog about homelessness. And religion and politics are often a part of the mix.

In yesterday’s USA Today, I read an article about a Florida 12-year old named Zach Bonner.
The article caught my attention because I’ve published three previous posts about Zach; the first which was back in November of 2007.

Colorado Springs: Another Town Struggling With Homeless Encampments
Like many other cities across the nation, Colorado Springs, CO., has seen an increase of "tent cities" within its city limits.
And, like many other cities, Colorado Springs is trying to find a way to address the issue.
